For decades, fears rooted in the Women's Health Initiative (WHI) study made both patients and physicians wary of hormone therapy for menopause. However, the evidence since then tells a different story. In this episode of Advances in Women's Health, Dr. JoAnn Pinkerton explains who's a good candidate for hormone therapy, why the original WHI findings don't hold up under reanalysis, and how current guidelines weigh its benefits against its risks. Dr. Pinkerton is the Women’s Midlife Help and Mamie Jessup Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Virginia. She also serves as Division Director for the Midlife Health Center at UVA and is the Emeritus Executive Director and past President of The Menopause Society.
